A&D Auto Workz is a VW certified independent shop in Bunnell, FL, serving Palm Coast and Flagler County. We service Jetta, Golf, GTI, Passat, Tiguan, Atlas and Touareg, plus TDI diesels and air-cooled classics: carbon cleaning, timing chain work, DSG service, cooling system repair and factory level diagnostics.
Why Volkswagens get misdiagnosed
A Volkswagen talks to a scan tool in its own language. Beyond the generic emissions codes any reader can pull, the car carries manufacturer specific fault codes, measuring blocks and adaptation channels across the engine, transmission, ABS, comfort and convenience modules. A shop without that software sees the emissions layer and nothing underneath it, so a fault in a module it cannot reach turns into a string of replaced parts.
The other half is pattern knowledge. VW platforms have documented wear points at predictable mileage: the plastic in the cooling system, the chain tensioner on certain EA888 engines, carbon on direct injection intake valves, the PCV diaphragm that pulls a lean code and burns oil at the same time. Knowing where to look first is why a diagnosis lands instead of dragging on.

Common VW symptoms and the repair behind them
- Rough cold idle, misfires and lost power on direct injection TSI engines: carbon buildup on the intake valves, cleared by walnut blasting
- A rattle for a second or two on a cold start: timing chain tensioner or guide wear
- Coolant loss with no puddle: a cracked coolant flange, thermostat housing, water pump housing or expansion tank
- Oil consumption between changes plus a lean code: a failed PCV diaphragm pulling oil through the intake, or worn piston rings
- Shudder, hesitation or jerky low speed shifts: DSG clutch and mechatronic wear, or fluid past its service interval
- Check engine light with EVAP or purge valve codes: the purge valve, a cracked line, or a leaking fuel cap seal
- Wet carpet in the footwell: blocked plenum or sunroof drains, which then take out the control module underneath
- No crank with the key in and the steering locked: the electronic steering column lock module on older Jetta and Passat models

Air-cooled and classic Volkswagens
The family's VW history starts with the air-cooled cars. Roger Silva has spent over 40 years on Beetles, Buses, Ghias and Things at this same location, and that work still happens here: carburetor rebuilds, valve adjustments by feel, 6V and 12V vintage electrical, and full restorations. If your VW has no computer to plug into, that is the page you want.

Who does the work
Alex Silva owns the shop and runs the bench. He is a Master Mechanic, VW certified, Honda certified and dealership-trained, with 20+ years of hands-on experience. He traces circuits and tests components before recommending a repair, which is the difference between fixing the fault and replacing the part a code pointed at. A&D Auto Workz is family owned, and Roger Silva still handles the air-cooled work.

Volkswagen repair questions
Where can I get my Volkswagen serviced near Palm Coast, FL?
A&D Auto Workz is a VW certified independent shop at 1302 S State St, Bunnell, FL 32110, serving Palm Coast and Flagler County. We service modern water-cooled Volkswagens, TDI diesels and air-cooled classics for drivers across Flagler and Volusia County. Call (386) 585-9872.
Does servicing my VW at an independent shop void the factory warranty?
No. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty simply because an independent shop did the work. The service still has to meet Volkswagen's specification, use the correct parts and fluids, and be documented, so keep your receipts and records.
Why is my VW losing coolant with no puddle on the ground?
On many Volkswagen engines the coolant flange, water pump housing, thermostat housing and expansion tank are plastic, and they get brittle with heat and age. A hairline crack weeps coolant that evaporates off a hot engine before it ever reaches the driveway. A pressure test finds it. Ignoring it risks an overheat.
How often does a VW DSG transmission need service?
Wet clutch DSG units are generally on a fluid and filter interval in the range of 40,000 miles, while dry clutch units follow a different schedule. The interval varies by model year and gearbox code, so we confirm it against the maintenance schedule for your specific car before recommending the service.
Do you still work on VW TDI diesels?
Yes. We service TDI diesel Jetta, Golf, SportWagen, Passat, Beetle and Touareg models. Common TDI work includes glow plug and injector diagnosis, EGR and intake cleaning, diesel particulate filter regeneration faults, turbo actuator problems, fuel filter service and timing belt replacement at interval.
