Check Engine Light & Electrical Diagnostics

We trace the actual cause, not just the code. The shop Flagler County drivers bring their car to when other shops have already given up.

The "scan and replace" problem

Here is how most shops handle a check engine light: plug in a scan tool, read the code, replace whatever part that code points to. If you are lucky, that fixes it. A lot of the time, it does not, because the code is a symptom, not a cause. You end up paying for a part that did not solve the problem, and the light comes back on within a week.

At A&D Auto Workz, we do it differently. Alex Silva is VW certified, Honda certified, and dealership-trained. He does not just read codes. He traces circuits, tests components under live load, and confirms the root cause before a single wrench comes out. That is the difference between real diagnostics and guessing.

What we diagnose

  • Check engine light (CEL) diagnosis across all makes
  • Intermittent problems that other shops cannot reproduce
  • Drivability issues: hesitation, stalling, rough idle, misfires
  • Electrical gremlins: parasitic draws, dead batteries, bad grounds
  • Module and computer diagnostics (ECM, TCM, BCM, ABS)
  • Wiring repair and harness work (rodent damage, aftermarket installs gone wrong)
  • CAN-bus communication faults
  • Sensor testing: O2, MAF, crank, cam, knock, MAP
  • Charging system and starting system testing
  • Pre-purchase diagnostic inspections

Why drivers come from Palm Coast and beyond

We have built our reputation on the hard ones. The cars that have been to three shops already. The codes that keep coming back no matter how many parts you throw at them. The "it only does it when the weather is damp" problems. Those are the jobs other shops turn away. Those are the ones we take.

Alex's dealership training means he knows how these systems are supposed to work, not just what a code reader says. That matters most on imports. For VW, Audi, Honda, Acura, Subaru, Kia, and European brands, the diagnostic approach is different from domestic vehicles, and generic scan tools miss things a factory-level tool catches instantly.

What the process looks like

You bring the car in. We charge a diagnostic fee to properly test and confirm the root cause. That fee is applied toward your repair if you proceed with us. You get a real answer, in plain English, with photos of anything we find. Then you decide what to do with that information. No pressure, no upsell, no "well while we are in there" surprise add-ons.
